Shugart/Quantum 5.25" Transition
Quantum and Shugart dominated the 8" HDD market in the early 1980's with their SA1000 and Q2000 products. Both attempted to enter the 5.25" HDD market with their Q500 and SA600 and both failed to achieve any success in the early market.
- Shugart was ultimately liquidated by Xerox.
- Quantum's success with it's HardCard allowed it to bridge into the next generation 5.25 with marginal success.
